“Shut and lock the damn door, Justin.” Stomping to the shower, she turned on the water. “Bathrooms are the only areas of the house that Daddy Dearest doesn’t have bugged. That mother*cking s*it stain. He had children kidnapped? I’m going to kill him.”
She suddenly looked up. “Move.”
Tex grabbed her by the waist as she rushed past him to the door. “Where are you going?”
“To k*ll that bastard. Let me go, Justin. Seriously.” She was fighting mad, her body nearly vibrated with anger. He lifted her off her feet and held her tight while she tried to kick his shins. He was pretty sure that was the moment he lost his heart.
“You can’t k*ll him. Listen, Vandie. I had to take this job instead of making Mingo disappear. My MC made a deal with the cops. A swap. To put your dad away and get one of my Dagger bros out of prison. I’d love nothing more than to take Mingo’s bloody, l*feless body back to my compound and burn him to ash then bury what’s left. But I need him alive to turn him over to the state police.”
Vandie let out a hysterical laugh. “They’ll let him go! He owns cops, lawyers, judges, and most of the media. He’ll twist the truth and make himself a hero. Mingo needs to d*e.”
Tex chuckled. “I don’t care if they let him go. As long as Spider gets out of prison. Mingo being free from state custody just means it’ll be easier for me to find and bury him.”
All the fight drained from Vandie. “Is he still doing it, Justin? Is he still taking babies? Because that’s a mother’s worst nightmare. I can’t stand the thought of him,” she started to cry. “I’d shrivel up and die if Phoenix disappeared.”
“The sooner I can get the goods on his ass, the sooner we can get him off the street. That’s where I can use your help. You know more about the estate, the house, and most of the security around here.”
“Justin?” Vandie’s voice was soft. It honestly worried him more than when she was ready to murder her own father. “I can’t get the image of those kids being stolen by him out of my head. Of them being sold to people. God, please make me forget.”
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Tex takes place in a violent world, where he goes undercover to bring down a human trafficker. There is violence, talk of trafficking, murder, and a transphobic character who deadnames and misgenders the trans child.
