A dark romance with a guaranteed happily ever after
The hardest part of writing is knowing where readers draw the line on triggers. My backlist contains books that are low angst, and my MC series is no exception. Although I must admit, the bloodlust rode me hard in this series. My guys don’t care if they have to kill someone who threatens their family. The first time I wrote a scene where my Hero had to take out a threat, I was apprehensive.
Then I talked to a fellow author who writes MC romance and she told me “Readers in this genre can be bloodthirsty! They don’t cringe at violence like other genres.” So, I decided to throw caution to the wind and let my characters off their leashes, so to speak.
Buc goes deeper into the dark than any other book I’ve written. It deals with self-harm, witnesses suicide, light torture, killing in self-defense … just a range of triggering subject matter. I even felt the need to put the National Suicide Prevention hotline at the beginning of the book — it’s 1-800-273-8255, by the way. Please call it if you need it.
